Allah has provided us with guidance through the Holy Quran, which contains solutions for all our worries and challenges. One of the most powerful supplications from the Quran is “La ilaha illa anta subhanaka inni kuntu minaz-zalimin,” also known as Ayat e Karima. This verse is found in Surah Anbiya, ayah 87, and translates to: “There is no deity except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been one of the wrongdoers.”

This powerful dua was recited by Prophet Yunus (alaihissalam) when he was trapped inside the belly of a great fish. The story of Prophet Yunus teaches us the significance of this supplication. After becoming disheartened by the ignorance of his people, Prophet Yunus left the city of Nineveh without Allah’s permission, hoping to find a more receptive community. However, by Allah’s will, he was thrown overboard from a ship and swallowed by a fish, where he remained for 40 days. During this time, he continually recited this verse, seeking Allah’s forgiveness. Finally, Allah accepted his repentance and freed him from his ordeal.

The Messenger of Allah, as narrated by Ibrahim bin Muhammad bin Saad from his father, Saad, said: “The supplication of Dhun-Nun (Prophet Yunus) while in the belly of the whale was: ‘There is none worthy of worship except You, Glory to You, Indeed, I have been of the transgressors.’ So indeed, no Muslim man supplicates with it for anything, ever, except Allah responds to him.” (Tirmidhi 3505).

**Benefits of Reciting Ayat e Karima:**

Ayat e Karima embodies some of the most fundamental acts of Islam, such as the declaration of Tawheed (monotheism), seeking forgiveness, and glorifying Allah.

Sa’d Ibn E Malik narrated that he heard the Prophet (SAW) say: “Should I not inform you of Allah’s Greatest Name (IsmeAzam)? When dua is invoked with it, it is accepted, and whatever is asked for is granted. This is the supplication through which Yunus (AS) called upon Allah from within three layers of darkness: ‘La ilaha illa anta, Subhanaka, Inni kuntu minaz-zalimin’ (There is no god but You; You are far exalted and above all weaknesses, and I was indeed the wrongdoer).” A man asked: “O RasulAllah, is this dua specific to Yunus (AS) or for all believers?” The Prophet (SAW) replied: “Have you not heard the words of Allah (in the Quran): ‘And We delivered Yunus (AS) from his distress, and thus We grant deliverance to all believers’ [Quran].”

Reciting Ayat e Karima brings numerous benefits:

  • – It alleviates all difficulties.
  • – It fulfills righteous desires.
  • – It resolves marriage issues.
  • – It defeats and overpowers enemies and tyrants.
  • – It is a potent remedy for incurable diseases.
  • – It serves as a cure for all forms of magic.

In another hadith, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “When any Muslim recites this dua 40 times during illness, and if the person dies from that illness, they will be granted the reward of a martyr. If they recover, all their sins will be forgiven.”

Sa’d ibn E Waqas also narrated: “The supplication made by the Companion of the Fish (Prophet Yunus) in the belly of the fish was (the above). If any Muslim supplicates in these words, their supplication will be accepted/responded to.”

As Muslims, we should make a habit of reciting this powerful Ayat e Karima with sincerity and good intentions. Insha Allah, Allah (SWT) will ease our difficulties and solve our problems.
